Babak Hodjat, Co-Founder & Chief Scientist
Babak Hodjat is Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of Sentient, responsible for the core technology behind the world’s largest distributed artificial intelligence system.
Prior to co-founding Sentient, Babak was senior director of engineering at Sybase iAnywhere, where he led mobile solutions engineering. Prior to Sybase, Babak was co-founder, CTO and board member of Dejima Inc., acquired by Sybase in April 2004. Babak is the primary inventor of Dejima’s patented, agent-oriented technology applied to intelligent interfaces for mobile and enterprise computing – the technology behind Apple’s Siri.
He is a published scholar in the fields of Artificial Life, Agent-Oriented Software Engineering, and Distributed Artificial Intelligence, and has 25 granted or pending patents to his name.
Babak holds a PhD in Machine Intelligence from Kyushu University, in Fukuoka, Japan.

Jon Epstein, Chief Marketing Officer
Jon Epstein is Chief Marketing Officer of Sentient, where he leads the branding, positioning and messaging for the company and its products.
Jon’s career has included stints as founder and CEO of GameSpot, one of the top digital media brands for young adult males, as EVP and GM of Media for IGN Entertainment, another top media brand, and as president of Omek Interactive, the gesture technology company whose products are at the heart of Intel’s RealSense technology.
He has also served as CEO of Double Fusion, an in‑game advertising company, as president of GameSpy, a media and middleware company, and as CEO of Hawkes Remotes, a remotely‑operated underwater vehicle company. Most recently, Jonathan was a partner at Equity Search Partners, where he built top leadership teams for innovative technology start‑ups.
He has authored issued patents in fields as diverse as advertising audience measurement and fiber‑optic spooling technology for ROVs, and has a pending patent in use cases for 3D gesture recognition.
Jon received a degree in physical sciences from Harvard College.
